ABOUT ABOUT

How do you sustain and grow a career in sculpture? Access to space, equipment, and tools can be difficult and expensive. Join Darla Jackson, founder of the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym for a discussion about the benefits of developing a sculpture practice in a community atmosphere with access to shared equipment and studio space.

Tour the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym’s facilities which include mold making stations, jewelry making stations, wood shop, metal shop, welding, and casting spaces. Followed by a focused hands-on opportunity to learn aspects of metal-working and welding. Participants will learn welding basics using the MIG and TIG welders and discuss the different uses of these two welders demonstrating the processes on mild steel. Natural fiber clothes, long pants, and closed toe shoes are required. Welding helmets, gloves, and jackets are available for use.

Participants will be offered a package discount on safety training and day or monthly pass discount enabling follow up on skills learned during the lecture and demonstration.

Made possible through the generous support of The Knight Foundation with support of the Center for Emerging Visual Artists.
